Chêneau corset
Chêneau corsets are one of the most popular ways to cure scoliosis. They're also said to be the most effective way among the conservative methods. They can mostly be used on young patients, starting not later than the teenage years.
Before anything else is being done, the orthopaedic technician takes a brief physical examination. After that he has a talk with the child and the parents. He tells them why and how long the child has to wear the brace, and how the preparation process will happen. He also tries his best to answer all the questions they have about it and to dispel the fears connected to the cure.
The actual making of the corset begins with an individual plaster sampling, or making a 3D picture of the patient's torso. Then they compensate the unnatural curves on the sample. After that they make the brace out of a thermoplastic material and the patient tries it on. They make a few more small corrections to make it easier to wear, then voilá, the corset is done. Although, not in its final form. There're regular control examinations, when the orthopaedist makes more changes to increase the effectiveness of shaping the patient's spine.
About wearing it, it's usually 23 hours daily for the first (few) years, then for a bit more time just at night, but everything depends on the seriousness of the individual's medical needs.
